The Buchan Way Fundamentals

We are excited to share a BIG part of us that has never been shared before…

From the very beginning, we wanted John Buchan Homes to be different from other companies. Different in how we treat our clients, different in how we work with each other, and different in the results we achieve. These differences are best captured in 26 fundamentals that are the foundation for our unique culture. We call it THE BUCHAN WAY.

Each week, we’ve been sharing one fundamental on our Facebook page. Here we will share Fundamental 1-5 and continue on a weekly basis. We are grateful for this opportunity to connect and share the fundamentals that guide us to deliver our best for you.

FUNDAMENTAL #1

Do the right thing, always.

Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to doing the right thing in every action you take and in every decision you make, even when no one’s looking. Integrity is not a part-time job.

FUNDAMENTAL #2

Be positive.

You have the power to choose your attitude. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Choose to be optimistic and see the possibilities. Optimism creates energy and energy creates success.

FUNDAMENTAL #3

We are team players.

Nothing is done in isolation. Consider how your actions impact your teammates. Be willing to help a coworker when that’s what’s required for success. There’s no such thing as one person or one department succeeding and another falling short. We win and lose as a team.

FUNDAMENTAL #4

Take pride in your work.

Build it to last. Make your work of enduring quality. We don’t do good, we do great. Demonstrate a passion for excellence. Take pride in the quality of everything you do. Always ask yourself, “Is this my best work?” Everything you do has your signature and makes a statement about you. Make sure it’s a statement of excellence.

FUNDAMENTAL #5

Be a fanatic about the details.

Know and understand the details. Be a fanatic about accuracy and precision. Each project is distinct. The goal is to understand the project and get things right, not simply to get them done. Take the time necessary to double check your work. Measure twice and cut once. Get the details right the first time, every time.
